Transmission Access Panel?

Hi. I recently had my transmission worked on, and now that I have it
back I noticed that I can see the bottom of the torque converter and
flywheel/teeth just below the engine (you can see it spinning when
the engine is running). I was wondering if my mechanic "forgot" to
replace the access panel, or maybe there wasn't an access panel all
along. If there was an access panel would the transmission have to be
pulled to put it back on? Thanks.

Yeah, looks like your mechanic forgot the panel/dust shield. Is is a thing
guauge metal plate that covers the last couple of inches between the bottom
of the motor to the tranny, covering the flywheel and providing a place for
any moisture/water to drain. You shouldn't have to yank the tranny to
replace it, well, your mechanic to replace it since he screwed up. It might
be a squeeze but try removing the upper tranny ant-pitch bar (goes from the
top of the tranny to the firewall) and then the two lower motor mount bolts,
then lift the engine and tranny together to get some room to replace the
panel (it is held on by two 10mm or 12mm bolts, nothing major). Hope this
helps. john k

Thanks. I didn't remember the hole being there, but then I never
specifically looked for it either.
