I was reading the RS Turbo article in the current edition of SPEED magazine where it says that taking out the restrictions in the intake make the car much more driveable at low speeds, and gives the car more thrust on boost. My question is, does it effect the idle at all, or any other standard characteristics. The article by Julian Edgar of Autospeed fame which Rod has previously provided seems to indicate the car idles erratically, but I think the mods Julian did were more dramatic. Will the ECU eventually sort this problem out by itself?

Mine is just like normal. My mods are just as eratic. The onlt thing I hav'nt done is between the filter box and turbo inlet. That could change things though.

Any chance that article is available to read some place online?

You will prob have some idle issues. I know I did when I had my k&n cone filter on. I've since then put the stock box back on, and it does idle better.

I talked to my father, who is a certified Subaru mechanic, about
intake mods on the legacy turbo. He doesn't suggest doing anything
other than removing the intake snorkus

I've removed my snorkus and am using a KN filter and I
don't seem to notice any difference in idle. It does
seem to have a bit more power. I have a NA 92. What
kind of other intake mods are they refering to?
Ram/Cold air or just modifying the piping to remove
any restrictions. On another note, One of my friends
replaced his stock tubing from air box to intake
manifold with a larger diameter, straightflowing
insulated heater duct. It made his truck have more
power and better acceleration. Ive considered trying
something like this on my Legacy but haven't. Anyone
ever done anyhting like this. Also, what are the
hoses from the intake line going to. I traced them
once but don't remember.

If the intake snorkus is removed, can it easily be put back if required?

I think Rod posted it a couple of months ago. Rod, are you there do you remember? I don't intend to change the airbox or filter.

On the Quad cam models there is a box between the filter box and turbo inlet. This box is there to eliminate noise and make for a smoother engine. Its bassically there for because it was a prodution car and every one is not into modifying. You replace the box for a pipe and it allows the turbo to breath better.
