Super squealing at low speeds

Hey all-

I've got a 93 Legacy Turbo 5MT which has been fantastic... This fall, I replaced the serpentine belts, and for the past couple of months, particularly when the car's cold, there is a high-pitched belt squeal- always when parallel parking, but also when approaching stops or engaging/releasing the clutch. What could it be? I thought that the belts might be too tight (or too loose), or maybe it was the power steering pump dying, but it happens when I'm going straight. Any thoughts? Thanks-

I had this problem about a month ago after I got my
120k tuneup. With the exact same symptoms it turned
out that the serpentine belt needed tightening.

I'd also say the belt is too loose. Weeks after I changed mine it started
squealing too. I tightened it again and
I haven't heard a sound since. I guess they must stretch a bit after you put
them on.

Loose belt, as was mentioned. The belts will stretch from when they are new. You should check new belts to see that they are still tight.

Bo.

Tightening the serpentine belt sorted out the squealing... The brand new AC belt appears to have just exploded as well- piss poor, in my opinion. Oh well...
