I have a question regarding the "reflector" part of the trunk on my '91. The large plastic part across the back of the trunk (between the taillights) on my car is damaged, I have found several good replacements at the local U-Pull yard but was wondering how the "Legacy Turbo" badging attaches to the larger plastic piece?

All the replacements I have found are of standard Legacy's and I want to swap the badging when I swap the center piece. Is it on using adhesive or is it bolted through the larger plastic piece? Any info would be appriciated!

It's not bolted on, If you remove the large piece it doesn't have any nuts, screws or bolts coming out of that area, I think it's just adhesive but I'm not sure.

2-sided tape.

They have double sided tape for automotive trim. You can probably find it at an auto parts place. It works really well. Just peel the old one off carefully - you don't want to damage it and the old tape will probably still be holding it well.

Great! Thanks for the help. I've got some thin 3M auto trim double-sided tape at home. I just found the "AWD/ABS" emblem in the cars ashtray so I can reattach that too!

fyi its a pain to get them out without the paint crackin in the emblem. atleast on the 92-94 are. i usta use fishing line to break up the glue.

I've cracked several 90-91 faceplates trying to get them off, my car came with none. I have a red one on my white reflector right now. Whatever. be careful.

A heat gun may help loosen the adhesive. Or maybe even just a hair dryer.

yeah get it nice & toasty.....googone works too in cleaning up the sticky mess too.

Goo Gone doesn't eat through the lens plastic? Or am I thinking of something else?

I don't think it does.....I've used it on plastic numerous times. it's a citrus based adhesive remover.

only thing I could think it would do is possibly get rid of the paint on the badging.

Goo Gone is pretty mild, like admin said it is citrus based. I'be used it on several computer cases to remove sticker residue, and it didn't harm the plastics.

Removing the badging sucks. Ive broken or damaged a couple already. If you dont break the thing in half you will put a visile scratch on the backside. Id say just save yourself the time and purchase the part from the dealer.

Well I found a mint rear center reflector at the U-Pull yesterday off a '90 L so I pulled it off to replace my cracked up piece.
I tested some methods of removal for the badging while getting the Legacy L badge off but ended up breaking it...
I did however get the Legacy Turbo badge off successfully!



Here's how I did it:
I heated the emblem with a hair dryer until it was hot to the touch, then I got some fishing line started unter on of the corners and started working it back and forth while heating the top & the bottom. I took my time, it took about 20 minutes to get 1/3 of the emblem free. Once I had 1/3 started I wedged a small screwdriver under the edge of the emblem just to provide a slight amount of lift. I then squirted GooGone under the 1/3 edge and let it soak in while continually heating the emblem top & bottom. After about 10 minutes of soaking & heating I started with the fishing line again. After about another 20 minutes of heating, GooGone & fishing line and even a few gently pry's with the screwdriver the badge popped free.

Words of advise, take your time. If you attempt to rush this you will break the emblem. While cleaning the "goo" off the back of the emblem I did end up removing some of the gray paint. It just so happened that I had some matching touch up paint to fix the paint that had come off. The proper color to "repair" the emblem is: Subaru Touch Up Paint - "Slate Metallic", Code # 943, SOA Part # 308M147.

Very Nice, patience is key when removing these badges, or you'll crack em up.
