It's unusual to hear any good comments about the cup holders in our cars, but I actually found one nice thing about them on my most recent road trip. They come out easily.

So when I stopped along the way to get some hot cocoa or a soda, I brought the cupholder into the fast food joint with me and asked for the largest cup that would fit into it. Both times, the person behind the counter loved it. :)

No need to guess at the size and risk ending up with a drink that won't fit in the cup holder. :)

the only thing i hate about them is that they're friggin small. Love how they camoflauge the deck(if you have one) and fold away quickly

Yeah they come out for easy cleaning, never thought of asking for certain cup sizes though.

I hate them otherwise, when full you can't get to the radio or hvac controls...

My stereo is mounted in the lower part of the center console, so I can still access its controls with my fat sausage fingers although I more or less have to do it by feel.

The best cup for our cars is the Taco Bell cup that comes with the value meals. They're like 32 oz. and fit snug.

The thing I hate about the cup holders is that spillage ends up on the stereo. I hate dried, sticky pepsi syrup being on my radio.

I can work the volume control and most of the other controls by feel too when I have drinks.

Drink Diet Pepsi. Then the dried syrup wouldn't be nearly as sticky.

I very rarely use mine.....normally don't let things drip and get sticky all over. Plus you can't get to the stereo very easily. But I do like how it hides away. A friend didn't even know they were there when I opened it once.

I'm always afraid those big taco bell cups will break it one day.

I usually have the passenger hold cups, or just sit it in my crotch. You can do this with manuals aswell, just take your time when shifting and braking.

That's certainly possible, but it's very, very hard to override the instinct to avoid spilling the drink in an emergency. And even if you do permit it to spill, steaming hot or ice cold liquid on the loins can interfere with clear thinking.

Crappy cupholders are better than NO cupholders (a la XT)

Bottles and cans fit perfectly snug between the hand brake and passenger seat in the old GL's. Strange thing was that they held CDs a lot better in the pocket at the bottom of the console than the Legacy and the design dated to the very dawn of CDs when nobody was buying them yet (certainly not people buying a car sold under the motto: Inexpensive and built to stay that way)...

Hehehe... I've already got a spare that I've been planning on modifying into a computer holder. I have a little Pentium 75 that I've overclocked to 100Mhz that's about the size of a VHS tape that I can use to talk to my ECU and GPS and it would fit perfectly there if I could give it a little bit of suspension. I was thinking one of those old-school Discman mounting surfaces would do.

Did you know thet if you push the little lever in the middle and slide it out another 1/4 inch a pack of smokes fits the square recess perfectly. i dont know that this was ment for smokes but it holds them securely when hittin the boost.
