Camshaft retainer O-Ring leak? Have you heard of this

I replaced all the oil seals (or so I thought) on a 1997 Legacy L 2.2 and now it looks as if oil is leaking from the rear of the head.

You know how the heads are reversable for each side? Well you know how the camshaft pulley hole has a cover plate over it? It seems that the oil is leaking from that spot. I looked at an engine breakdown and there is an O-Ring inside of that.

From the assembly it looks like a 5 minute fix, just remove the two bolts and install the new O-Ring.

Has anyone done this?

BTW this 97 legacy had roller rockers

I have not done this operation, but this is the one thing that is mechanically wrong with the engine on my turbo. I have been putting off dealing with it because it is a small leak and I don't need to add any oil. But is has made a bit of a mess in the area around the turbo on some of th hoses and wiring. :(

My ej22 had this issue, i ended up just using an rtv sealant around the cover plate and it never leaked again.

I'll be doing this shortly....o-ring is cheap and easy to replace.
