ok so heres th deal, 92 legacy turbo awd auto, 198,000 miles on it. runs great, trannys been acti up a litle bit but was still workin fine until today. then leavin the gas station this mornin car goes up to 25-30mph then it just looses it. rpms jump up and the car goes no faster. now it can keep a constant 25mph and it goes into reverse and drive fine. on your opinions what could this possibly be? i have a tcu code for duty solinoid c but that deals with the awd. it almost seems as if it tries to shift and has nothing to shift to. please help because my moms using the car for the winter and she needs it to get to work.

does it make any sounds when this happens, and vibrations, or anything out of the ordinary, is it only when accellerating fast or only when slow? What was it like before?

I dont really have any answers but more nformation can always help :D

everything seems perfectly normal, no odd sounds or odd characteristics, its just as if you were starting from a stop and all of a sudden at 25 it just stops pulling and the rpms shoot up...

Same problems the turbo 91 turbo sedan I bought from texas had. It had 110k miles, you got so many out of yours I almost consider it lucky.

ok new developments, took it out for a quick jaunt without the mother... 1st and 2nd gears work normal, can get up to over 40 in second like its supposed to just by pushin down the pedal further (didnt want to do with mom in car earlier) but it wont shift into 3rd at all. so i check the codes (http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/trans.html) and along with code 24 which has been there for like a year at least it now has 21, 22, 23, 25, and 31. now im wondering could my TCU have given up? or would something else be causing it to read an error on all of those sensors? any thoughts would be great, at least she can pull the svx out of the garage and use it, it was just nice to keep it off the road for the winter...

clear the codes and then check them again to see if all of them show up.

Sounds similar to the problem I had, something to do with the high clutch. They said it could be fixed if they pulled the tranny apart....I just replaced it instead.

ok cleared the codes, took it out for a short jaunt, still doin the same thing (nothing above 2nd gear). checked the codes again, still have 24 which has been there for like a year at least so im not worried, but it also had a 32, but none of the others, how long of a ride does it need to get trouble codes because i onoly really went around the block, and if something was mechanically wrong in the transmission would it bring up trouble codes for all the different sensors?

you can probably replace the VSS1 without removing the tail housing....however if you want to replace the duty c solenoid....you'll have to take it off.

Not sure if that's related to your problem....it definitely could be...the speed sensors messing up can do some funky things.
