The 4 way flashers on my 96 legacy L come on when the turn signal is activated. The instrument panel lights don't work, either. The headlights work, and so does the radio and the clock. The 4 way flasher is a new one. Do I need a new combination turn signal switch? The car has airbags.

Okay, so to verify your question:

When you turn on your blinker (either left or right, it doesn't matter), ALL FOUR blinkers come on. Is this correct?

when either blinker is turned on, all four 4 ways come on.

I switched both rear turn signal light bulbs ( bulb # 1156 ) but this didn't work. Also checked fuses. Wiring looks ok. Anybody got an idea?

When you say the instrument panel lights don't work, are you talking about the ones that indicate the turn signals, or all the instrument panel lights?

What I meant was none of the instrument panel lights work. Both of the turn signal indicator lights come on when the left or right turn signal is activated.

The "door open alert", "seat belt sign", "ATS oil temp light", "check engine" message all work, but the instrument panel lights won't come on. The head lights are ok. I just got a combination turn signal switch. Does anybody have any ideas on this? It won't pass inspection when the turn signals don't work.

A happy ending. The combination turn signal switch did the trick. Still don't have dimming capacity for the instrument lights, but I can live with that.
