I see engines all the time and sometimes with autos attached. Where is there a source for manual transmissions and what would pricing be like?

5 or 6 speed? Why do you want a JDM transmission anyways?

I assume 6-speeds would be too much money. I was thinking in terms of playing with different ratios and such (if its possible to mix and match) and that some of the JDM transmissions may be stronger.

Dang, lost my response to an error
Anyways, unless its a rare 5 speed they will be the same strength as we got.
US 5 speed are available in 3.9 and 4.11 . Off the top of my head Forester and some RS are 4.11 .
Here is a great 6 speed offer
3. JDM 6-speed Transmission (5 available)
-Less than 10000km
-Includes shift linkage
-DCCD available (additional charge, please ask)
-Suretrack front LSD
starting at $3999

I think that 6-speed's a little out of my range unless I sell a screenplay or something. I was also talking about individual gear ratios as they varied with the different versions. I have no idea how I'd trust I'd get the exact specific transmission from an importer, though. Guess I'll just look domestically.

4k isnt that much though!
Here is mention of the only 5 speed I know of with a 4.44 final

Why do you care about the individual ratios? A closely geared transmission can be emulated with small tires so?

4k's a lot for a guy with no job who's also trying to save for a house in one of the most expensive areas of the country.
Probably just thinking too far, but I would like to build a 6-speed, I guess, with the lower gears matched for good acceleration to whatever turbo I end up with and an extra high top so I could run 80 on very little boost for mileage purposes as this will be my only car for the foreseable future and the long leg would help for my celebratory drive cross country when the car's finally done.

But what would be the fun in that?

Being able to late brake into turns while still driving with two hands? Building boost at a stand still? Repeatability (with the same inputs behavior is always the same).
Sorry, back on topic. I think the Australian counterpart to our BBS would be the better choice to ask this question, as they regularly get JDM cars.
