Altenator / charging problem...

Hi guys,

I have a weird problem that I can't sort. I am in the process of fixing up a 90 Legacy AWD sedan. Got the engine running really nice - but the battery light is on and it isn't charging. Other lights are also on (!), ABS, etc. All on the right hand side of the binacle.

Car had a recent rebuilt Alt from previous owner on it. I replaced it with a Bosch rebuild and it worked fine for a while, but now the lights go on and off. Sometimes flickering a bit as if undecided.

I've cleaned all the battery connections and grounds - seems a bit better, but it is still doing it.

Is there a common ground somewhere else I may be missing? Any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks much!

Rabin

The ground wire running near the starter? Check the positive lead to the alternator?

The + wire to the alt is fine. I redid all the positive and negative ends coming off the battery - as well as where they went to. (+ to starter, - to beside the starter and the body.

Lights seem to flicker like a connection issue. Odd that the battery and other lights like the ABS and the (!) light go on too.

I have to put my voltmeter in the car so I can see the voltage - it seems like the alt is still charging - the lights may just be coming on. I want to find it though - as well as have the first Alt tested.

I've also used booster cables to run redundant paths to see if the lights would shut off - no luck doing that either.

I'll Keep looking though...
