Okay, here's the deal: I just spent a whole bunch of $ doing a LOT of maintenence (sp?). Anyway, for shits and giggles I removed my oil filler cap to clean it (my engine is VERY, VERY clean) -cuz I'm anal like that.
So anyway, what do I see but moisture contamination on the filler cap!
I recently replaced both head gaskets along with the usual assortment of stuff: waterpump, thermo, timing belt, intake manifold gasket, blah, blah, blah). I notice no contamination anywhere else and I changed the oil twice in the last 2k miles -the last time I flushed the engine oil and did a tranny flush. Each time I do this I always repalce the filter as well.
I have noticed, however, that on my driver side valve cover gasket oil residue forming on a regular basis. I should mention that I also replaced both valve cover gaskets.
Is it possible that the moisture contamination on my filler cap is due to a bad oil filler tube gasket? I went ahead and ordered a new one in any event, but this is really freaking me out!
I took the car to a very reputable shop to check it out and they said the crankcase had no moisture conatamination, so I'm at a loss.
The coolant is all clean and fresh (resovoir is holding steady, also very clean and uncontaminated). Despite this unsettling development, the car is running fine -I have noticed a flickering CEL at random times (which it never used to do), and that my idle will "lope" moderately in park, but only momentarily.
I'm wondering if I should take in in to another shop and get a second opinion, but is there anyway moisture could be getting into the engine from an, as yet, undisclosed location? I'm totally at a lose here, and slightly worried...
Any musing's on this would be most helpful -perhaps I've missed something?

Could be the filler gasket. There's an O-ring at the base of the filler. A 2-min job. Sometimes condensation can form under the cap just from temperature changes. I wouldn't worry about it.

Heh. I decide to poke around a little bit while I still had some light, and I discovered that the gasket I had thought might be the problem wasn't even there. I guess that's all there is to that.
I'm glad I ordered a replacement on the slim chance that my assumption might have been correct. Guess it was.

I feel the same way. I'll never be a father, so this is like my kid. Besides, who else would care?
