The fluid in my 92 manual legacy is gettin pretty old, definatly due for a change. My big question is should i do it myself or have someone do it. The book makes this job appear really easy. It looks almost as simple as changing oil, but the book has made things appear easy before that wernt. In changing the fluid i need to know what would be a good fluid to replace the old crap with. Something i could buy in town would be nice..
Please let me know on this asap i would like to get it changed tomorow if possible.

Also est time this would take? i have acess to a shop with a lift...

It is pretty much as easy as changing motor oil. Just get a funnel that makes it easy for you to pour oil into the gearbox dipstick. Also, you're supposed to replace the copper gasket that seals the drain plug, although it seems most people get away with not replacing it. I re-annealed mine (heat it with a torch 'til it glows red, then quench it in water) instead.

You can do a search to see what gear oils people prefer on this board... I think whatever dino oil you find is likely to be good enough if you don't have any bad shifting problems. I believe I have Castrol 75W90 in my car right now.
