There are physical connections made behind the HVAC unit. Rods attached to sliders and such.
To move it would require the relocating and re-designing of those sliders which, given the room behind the dash that you would have to work with, would be very hard.
I'd say it's possible if you want to pull your whole dash apart and try to re-run everything, but there is a small percent chance that it would actually work.

Ya, I don't think it would be worth the time and effort personally. I'd do what I did ( I think Phil did the same thing) put your deck at the bottom just above the ashtray. This allows you to use the cupholder without interferring with the deck. I can change cd while using the cuoholder, it's great.
Here's a pic:

Yep, exactly where mine is.
Plus, in 1st, 3rd, or 5th, I can touch the buttons with my hand on the shifter. I love being able to do that.

Gotta have love for the wagon though. I want a Touring Wagon as a daily driver and use the sedan as a monster project-mobile. Gotta be easier to fit a shortblock and driveline in a wagon than in a sedan.

harder to hide the bodies though, unless you have the cargo cover

That's the problem I had with my truck. You can only hold so many under the tonneau cover.

Actually, I'd be interested in seeing how easily a tranny fits in the trunk.

Are you just going to be accumulating every PN from a manual car that the auto car lacks? Or are you peiceing it together?
Since you can't use the WRX flywheel, I assume that tranny is out of an N/A?
You should pick up a WRX shift linkage and do a write up on an install

basically yes, and yes I'm peiceing it.
yep its from a 90 legacy (I didn't want to swap out differentials aswell), actually from a guy that went auto
that's one of the shift linkages

but I don't feel like paying 40 bucks just to get it installed, I'd like to know how the stock shifter feels plus I needed the bushing on the back as the wrx one didnt come with it so I just decided to use a legacy one at first. I'm also not putting sti mounts on at first because I want to feel the difference.

i already have the raido in the spot recomended but i dont like it down there. and i dont like my boost guage on the bottom either im workin on putting my guages in the vent holes and i just thought while i was at it i could put the raido up top with em. i saw pics out of a 95 legacy were the two were swaped and some pics out of a imprezza ( the roots supercharged one off niosoc) where the climite control was also pushed down but it sounds like its staying in place till i hear otherwise
