I noticed a few auctions that claim 92-94 style headlights/taillights fit 90-91... i dont belive this is true but i just want some one to confirm my beliefs.

Will the taillights?
I know the headlights are different, but I thought the taillights would just drop in.

exactly what is the main difference between the taillights?
That sucks because the '91s have very crappy looking taillights.

Physically.
Electronically can be fixed with enough creativity.....

heck with enought time, creativity and the right tools, the physical could be changed too.....

physically the 92-94 are larger I believe. Or the 90-91 are larger. though I believe the first is right. They're also a different shape, and have different mounting points. The easiest way to get 92-94 lights on a 90-91 car and keep the original body is to have the rear quarters welded in, change the trunk and bumper. But then again it would probably be less painful to just buy a 92-94. All this info and more was covered in some topics a while back.

the 90-91's are taller......unless you want to do some major hacking in the rear quarter panels.....don't even bother.....they will not fit.

Screw that.
I'll just black out the chrome bits on the stockers.
I also noticed (passed by a '92 sedan today) that there are little lights on the part on the trunk lid. That means there is probably a bit sticking back that wouldn't fit.....

92 - 94 lights will fit in a 90-91. But your gonna need a 92-94 rear bumper skin with beam and trunk lid. The 90-91 tailight holes in the chassis are taller then the 92-94 ones. I looked into this for my 91. All you would have to do aside from getting the new parts is install the new tailights and get some sheet metal and glue it with screws to cover the larger hole under tailights, so that water doesn't get into the spare tire compartment. All in all the conversion would actually be quite easy. even all the mounting holes into the chassis for the tail lights are identical.

Mark,
The opening will be larger.....and the portion where the light actually goes in is part of the fender........I suppose you could do a sheet metal fab and weld a piece in there.......but I'd be wary about how it'd look.....plus.....by then you're not really looking at something a normal do-it-yourselfer would do.....
