Oil in the front belt cover?

How important is the front timing cover gasket? I do plan on replacing it but I wonder how much oil is even in there? I don't see any place for oil to enter the timing area?

I am replacing those seals... I just wondered because I don't think I have ever seen an oily subie timing belt. I guess if the seals are bad then oil just leaks down the front of the block and out the cover?THAWA wrote:it is probably getting in behind the cam sprocket or crank sprocket, there's a seal behind each of those. oil pump is behind crank aswell
