Oil in the front belt cover?

How important is the front timing cover gasket? I do plan on replacing it but I wonder how much oil is even in there? I don't see any place for oil to enter the timing area?

it is probably getting in behind the cam sprocket or crank sprocket, there's a seal behind each of those. oil pump is behind crank aswell

I am replacing those seals... I just wondered because I don't think I have ever seen an oily subie timing belt. I guess if the seals are bad then oil just leaks down the front of the block and out the cover?

Another guestion is why is my front block seam not flush against the other have of the engine block. I need to take pics of that.
