Porting heads?

Post by WRXdan »

I am debating whether I should smooth out some of the passages in the heads while they are off. I'm not looking to remove a lot of material because I don't want to eat into a coolant passage. I was going to use a dremel and remove some of the casting and rough areas.

Is it worth my time since I'm not really "port" the heads? Bad idea?

there is a lot of meat in there to port at, get the factory gasket and port that much away you will be fine, and have a fast car when your done.

from porting a head gives about the same HP gain as a set of headers, which isn't much at all, but if its going to cost nothing then I say go for it. about a 10WHP gain can be expected.
