http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 7906396434 There's this one and another for an SVX and WRXs, ect.. among other cars.. but not ours specifically listed.. will this work in ours or do we run a different computer?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 7906395325 There's also this for a 96+ legacy.. what is our computer similar to that this might come in handy? do i even want this? vrg3 - you're our electrical guy, what's your take on it?

I think Milehi, in Colorado could do a flash on our ecu's. Kelley has also successfully made maps for the autronic ecu's for our cars with great results. He has started a company that is in the vendor section (perfectionmotorsports) and once he is up and running he will be selling some ecu's for our cars with a dual map system, so you can store two and switch back and forth. I talked to him about it last weekend so it should be almost ready. He had his car's ecu out because he was going to do some testing with his new one in his car over the weekend.
There are some overseas ecu's as well that could possably be made to work. rsstiboy had posted a link earlier in a post about it. I have to head out to lunch so I can't find the links, but if you do a search you should find some information.
I think Milehi was going to charge a couple hundred to reflash the ecu (which would raise boost, and possably play with the fuel maps: make sure you have an intercooler for that).

So... what about us n/a folks.. do we even need to mess with the computer to get performance gains? i mean, if i can grab 20 more hp, i'm all for it.. however, if most of the mods require a turbo, that i don't have, well... i'll... damn.. ok. so what does reflashing the ecu do anyhow? i want to make the computer work to my advantage and perhaps stop doing all the learning that it likes to do.. (it un-learned the performance gains i had from my exhaust!) What are the options?
thanks,

Those things on eBay are not upgrades! Don't buy them, and don't install them on your car. They crudely alter or even replace sensor signals (usually intake air temperature or coolant temperature signals) and can land you in big trouble.
The only simple "ECU mod" you might consider is the Torque Chip or the ProECM. From what I understand they're almost identical and they do a little bit of possibly intelligent manipulation of the VSS and coolant temperature signals. mile hi did develop the Torque Chip I believe. I have heard good and bad things about these devices, and wouldn't personally use them, but I thought I'd toss it out here.
I have done a little research into reprogramming the NA ECUs but I'm focusing on the turbos first... I probably will start modifying non-turbo ECUs later though, and certainly keep you guys informed.
For now, if you really want to be able to tune your ECU well, you should get an aftermarket programmable ECU.

our ecu's will also work with an na application. they are the starting point for our fi kits for the na motors. but I do think there is some power to be had in an na application with the proper maps.
feal free to contact me for any further information.
