4eat question - '91 turbo

I was wondering if it's normal for there to NOT be a locking function between drive and 3rd on a '91 turbo sedan 4eat. I was driving one the other day and noticed that I didn't have to press in the unlocking button on the shifter to go from third to drive and vice versa. (work with me on the terminology) Is it normal to not have to press the button in to go between these two gears???

That's normal. You can just push it between N-4-3.

You only need to press the button to shift from park to reverse (and vice versa), from neutral to reverse, from 3-2, and from 2-1. Everything else will just slide.

You don't have to. R > N >D is one fluid motion, was in my car.

In mine, you can push it up all the way from 1>drive, but to pull it back, you need to use the button between 2 and 3.

That's exactly as it should be Ironmonkey.

After bonding with my new girl last night I noticed that I do indeed like the 4eat, hmmm, never thought that would happen. I feel like a fool for fussing about it from the start. Well, gotta go, I'm off to begin plotting mods.
