inhibitor switch is tied to the automatic transmission and keeps you from shifting out of park without applying the brake.

I think the whole assemble is called the inhibitor switch? It's what the cable from your shifter is linked to on the side of the trans. The switch has to be aligned correctly. Check the FSM to see how. If the bolts backed out and the switch is loose then you will get a code.

The inhibitor switch really doesn't have to do with the cable going to the trans. it's tied to the electronics so that you can not move the gear selector out of park unless the brake pedal is applied.

yeah, i believe i've actually found hte switch. Assuming the inhibitor switch is the same as the shift interlock switch. It's on the pass side of the steering column. :D on the opposite side of where the brake pedals mount up top.

I still think the switch is on the side of the trans and does more then limit when you can select R. Maybe I'm thinking of something different.
