WRX engine mounts?

Since I'm pulling my engine in a week or two to completely overhaul every wear part on there, I figured I might as well cover my bases and get new engine mounts.

Can I use engine mounts from any other Subaru? Specifically WRX? I'm thinking snag some low-mileage ones from someone on NASIOC who upgraded to STi motor mounts. Will that work?

Yep, they fit fine.

you need to make sure to grab the mounts and brackets.

You need the mounts and brackets.

The motor mounts are worthless without the tranny mount too though. Get all of them.

I HIGHLY recomend getting the Group N stuff. I've got engine and tranny mounts from STi, and I LOVE them!

Is there a dealer that these Group N parts can be bought from? Will the stealership have them? I'm also in the market for new motor/tranny mounts by STi..How hard are these to install? what's all involved? How much?
Thanks, phil.

I have a 91 too. I think it'll fit.

I heard someone had problems with vibration from STi motor mounts. Is that true?

Yep, they fit.

The motor mounts are not worthless without the tranny mount. They will still help.

Let me rephrase my worthless comment.

When the engine is securely fastened to the chassis, very little movement occurs. This is GREAT. With the tranny, however, there is a lot of flex associated with the stock mount.

You now have a solidly mounted engine, with a noodle hanging off the back. Hit bumps, and the engine moves with the car, as the tranny slightly oscilates due to the soft mount. This puts a lot of stress on the casing, and probably aids the dreaded tranny case flex that's been known to cause gear breakages.

A loosely hung item attached to a very secure and solid item has the potential to cause more problems than if both items are loose, or solid.

All EJ engine mounts are the same. The Dealer MIGHT have the Group N mounts, but I'd never get them from there. I got mine from www.Mauromotorsports.com but Teagues (www.boxer4racing.com) has them as well. So does www.RaceCompEngineering.com

I recomend all 3 places. I personally know Myles (owner of RaceCompEngineering), and I would have gotten the mounts from him if he had them in stock.

Install is going to be no harder than reinstalling them in place of the stock mounts.

I should've mentioned this earlier, but I am getting a Group N transmission mount. I don't want the vibration/noise associated with the Group N mounts, and I bet the WRX mounts are the same or maybe a bit harder than stock Leg Turbo mounts.

I bet they are almost the same exact mounts.

There is not a HUGE NVH difference between the stock mounts and the Group N mounts.

Don't get a Group N tranny mount if you aren't getting Group N engine mounts. You'll get more noise for the tranny mount than the engine mounts.

Get Group N mounts or get Spec. C mounts. Group N's are going to be more durable and much stiffer. Spec C is designed for daily driving, slightly stiffer than stock. The Spec C mounts are going to be more expensive than the Group N's though as they are going to be harder to find.

If you REALLY want to get the Spec C's, call Myles at Race Comp Engineering and he will probably be able to help you out. Tell him Dr. Phil told you to call him. You'd be surprised at just how much Myles wants people to be happy.

Go Group N, you won't be disappointed. I associate most of my NVH gains with the lightweight flywheel.
