Refill...

ok, I know there is another thread on how to do this, but unlike that guy, I've never done this before.

SO, I need a step-by-step on how to do this. I'm swapping for a WRX coolant tank, and I need to know how to safely refill the system so the car doesn't... blow up, or anything.

Also, does the resivoir tank (the WRX peice I'm installing) have to be the highest point of the cooling system? I'd think not if the whole system is pressurized, but I'd just like to be sure.

It has to be the highest if thats were you'll fill the coolant once you drain it. :)

if it's not the highest [point level, it needs to be the highest point when elevated somehow, like on a hill or something. Remember the heater core is pretty high up.

I could just hold (or have someone hold) the tank at the highest point when I fill it, then bolt it down to it's location?

Quoted.....

"The Subaru WRX engines have their water catch tank high on the engine above the turbocharger. It is that little can where you check the water level. When the engine is shut off the water continues to circulate via a physical property of water called a thermal siphon. Simply put, hot water rises up to the catch tank, being drawn from the relatively cool cylinder head water jacket up through the turbo housing. This nifty little idea works every time you turn off your engine."

In order to refill you will want it in the highest position. There is really no trick to filling it "so the car doesn't... blow up, or anything. "if it is not the highest point then coolant will leak out whenver you take the cap off to check level (if the system is full atleast).

Hmm, I'll go outside and check clearances tomorrow. I'd like to see how much room I have to play with.
