When they tell you to...

tork the damn bolt ... then .. TORK IT WITH THE ALL THE POWER OF GOD ...

looks like 100lb-ft as stated in the shop manual was not enought for mine.. bolt became loose, and the pulley got all eaten ... should have listened to the guys at the dealership .. :\

That may not be a problem for a regular engine.. But in my case, the Stand-Alone Ecu i'm using calculates engine position with magnets installed on the crankshaft pulley ... So a 20degrees derivation meens a 20 degrees offset of all engine management.

no wonder why my car was pulling like a Renault 2cv the last 3
days.. :\

I'm lucky, crankshaft is still ok.. so i'll only have to replace the pulley.

Ouch! Its good that the crankshaft is still okay though. I bet you'd hate to have to pull the engine again, huh? :)

where are these magnets on the pulley? Is it something you've added?

Yeah, torque that bolt to like 120 ft/lbs and use locktite.

EXTREMELY lucky!

When I did my timing belt, I read all these horror stories on the board, and then I basically just went back afterwards and pretty much tightened the bolt with all my strength (I don't have a torque wrench :()

The loosened bolt seems to be caused by the added magnets on the crank pulley... They unbalanced it, with caused a little vibration loosening the bolt.

So on my next pulley, i'll have it ballanced after magnets are installed. + locktite + extra torque..

That's exactly what I was going to guess. My FSM says 95lbs, but I may go add a few pounds on the project just to be sure...

yeah.....110 ft/lbs is what I did mine to originally when I put on the lw pulley. When I did my tbelt I torqued to around 115-120 ft/lbs
