Removing a Turbo Legacy hoodscoop.

How many people here have removed their hoodscoop? I'd like to take it from a legacy hood, and try to put it on a EA82 hood. Do the Legacy scoops just bolt on?

Would anyone happen to have pictures too?

Thanks all

You have to remove the black chimney piece on the hood, and there are nuts holding the scoop on. It's pretty simple to get off. Some times the studs can get stripped that go into the scoop, and that can make taking them out a bitch.

One of the studs was like that on my scoop. The guys at the body shop I think put some epoxy or something in there. So it's solid now.

I don't have pictures, but here's an explanation of how it goes together:

This is based on my experience with my 93 scoop (91s may be different).

The scoop consists of two parts. The upper part is the plastic scoop mounted on top of the hood, and the lower part is the metal channel mounted underneath the hood that routes the air to the chimney.

If you pop the hood and look at the edges of the metal part, you can see the 8-ish Philips-head screws that hold it on just behind the edges of the hood blanket. Each of these screws thread into plastic inserts in the hood itself, I believe.

After you remove the metal part you can see the 8-ish 8mm-head nuts holding the upper scoop part in. The scoop has studs glued into it, and they go through holes in the hood, and then the nuts are threaded on.

Sweet... just wanted to make sure there was no cutting involved. Now, i hope its no wider than the hump on a EA82 hood.

IM thinking of using the scoop when I get my RX.

There's no cutting involved in installing/removing it on a Legacy, but it does depend on a) the correctly shaped hole being in the hood, b) there being holes in the correct places around it for the studs, and c) there being plastic clips stuck into the underside of the hood for the screws.

I had the same idea for my Xt turbo before I bought my SS Legacy, but after looking at both hoods, they are different shapes and sizes. This is what I found:

Legacy scoop \_______/ 23" X 5"

Xt scoop |_______| 21 1/2" X 5"

Since they both sit in an indentation in the hood, you would have to cut the metal around the hood to do it right.

Yeah, I'm almost positve a Legacy Scoop won't fit on an EA82 hood. Ask tex about hood scoop options.

A WRX scoop is too wide (and legacy scoops are almost the same width). You'd have to do some serious modification of the hood to get it to fit.

Dan (another dude off USMB) found a decent scoop on Ebay, and tex found a real nice one off some company in the UK.

It's all good. . . from what I recall, Tex is doing some custom work with a v.8 STi hoodscoop. With the measurements he took off mine, he determined that it shouldn't be too difficult to make it work. :)

Hrm... im thinking the same. Expecially since our Legacy scoops are recessed... i would have to do some funky cutting work to get it to look good.

I dont want a gawdy scoop like the WRX has. Just something to let an IC breath through.

In that case, I'd SERIOUSLY recommend asking tex where he got his old scoop. As far as tasteful goes, it looked awesome.

Fitting a Legacy or WRX hoodscoop on there is gonna take some serious modification of the hood (Corky has done this several times) or some serious amounts of Bondo.
