When my car is idling it makes the noisy lifters sewing machine sound. But there is another sound too, its like a pinging that also happens when i turn off the car. Its hard to describe but it almost sounds like when you are driving and small pebbles hit the bottom of the car. So basically its a "pinging" sound. Any ideas?

Thats a "car" thing. "cars" do that. It's the different metals cooling at different rates and rubbing against eachother as they do so. Most of it is from the exhaust- its thin, recieves a constant supply of hot air that is instantly cut, and is designed with expansion and contraction in mind. Maybe some really new cars dont do that, but all the rest do.

As for your lifters, have you done an oil change yet? You might just be really low.

Oh, I didn't read carefully enough... I missed the part that it happens when you park, not when it's idling.

In that case, what Scott said. ;)
