Well it seems like the kind of thing that either works or doesn’t. I think that our gas gauges are sorta inaccurate as many are. The needle on my gauge never reaches all the way to the top and goes well beyond the last tick mark when it is empty. The gas light comes on when there are 2 or 3 gallons left. I suppose a way to test the gauge would be to fill the tank and reset your trip odometer. If you know roughly how many miles you get on a tank you can sorta gauge if its working, no pun intended :) . So when you are at, lets say, 250 miles and you know that that is when you are usually at the empty and that’s what your gauge says, then its doing its job. I get about 160 miles when the needle hits the last tick mark.--crappy I know. I hope this isn't to confusing and kinda answers your question.

umm..do you have a manual of some kind? that would give you methods of testing your fuel senders, which is what i think you may want to check out, if you think your gas gauge is inaccurate.

That's about what I get.

I drive too fast all the time.

I'm saving some $$ by driving my mom's '03 Legacy.

I miss having quick acceleration, though.

my gage is screwed up totally, some times it works, sometimes it just reads empty. What is the thingy that sends the signal from the tank to the gage? maybe that one piece really sucks on the legacy.

Here is a good article from howstuffworks.com about how a gas gauge works.
