I just got the call. As of Monday, I will officially be gainfully employed. I will be working as an intake specialist for a company that manages disability and FMLA claims/benfits. Their biggest customer is QWEST, with 43,000 employees, but they handle a number of other companies as well. Full benefits and a reasonable salary. Not the $$$ I made with Airwalk, but enough to pay the bills and still have +/-$200 a month for mods. Forged 11.5:1 pistons here I come. 8)

Congratulations Matt!

It's good to see you are getting everything all set up again. Mmm 11.5:1 forged slugs.

Only 11.5:1? Go 14:1 and have quad throttle bodies!

A friend of mine wanted to do an N/A KA24 build in a 240SX. 14:1 with quad throttles. Ended up going 7.5:1 and 22psi on an SR20DET. Almost the same thing ;).

Why naturally aspirate a turbo motor? Isn't it a lot of custom work on a de-optimized engine to produce ~250hp? I'm curious.

I think he is just using the block for its strength to handle high horse and be bulletproof, maybe?

Is that crank knife-edged?

Sick! That's what I'd like to do for a high rpm, high CR N/A build.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this high compression business for a while... can you really go as high as 14:1? What would you need to do about fuel managment and timing if you ran one that high? I was thinking about using an EJ22T shortblock for the base of the build. Has anyone else ever done this? BAC, how far did your friend ever get with it?

Thanks,

Morgan

7.5:1 CR and 22psi on an SR20DET. So not to far on the high CR, quad throttle build.

Fishbone - Did you recently win some KYB AGX's on E-bay? I think you were bidding against me :(

That was you? I suspected when I looked at your previous items (the infamous burn) after the sale, but I wasnt sure. I'm sorry man, I had to jump on those. Incidentally, the guy seemed pretty cool when I talked to him... he offered me a pretty good price on the front set, and he has some front/rear sets around still. You should give him a call and see what he will do on an outright buy of another set (he seemed like he was trying to get rid of them... why is beyond me).

I dunno. I'll probably end up buying Jason's old setup for now, and seeing how I want to continue my mod path.

Congrates on the job.

Is that Madwrx's old block? What kind of damage was there?

Yes, that is Loius's block. I did the tear down on it. It is those heads that we were discussing. Have you been talking to him about buying the exact same heads?
What happened?

Detonation happened on #4. destroyed the ring lands.

And as for why this block? Because, as has been mentioned I want something super solid for a high compression build. Why "detune" a 300hp block? Hmmm, let's see, To blueprint and close the deck on my stock EJ251 block w/112k mi on it and add the pistons would cost around $2000-2500. And ,my car would be undriveable while doing the work. Or, take this block, rebore it, add pistons and reassemble it w/a dynamically balanced for around $1000-1500, including the block? You do the math. The crank isn't knife edged, but it is shot peened from the factory. And of course the crank and rods are forged. Revving to 7500rpm with this thing will dreamy

Anything over 12:1 CR will make the car unstreetable. I want the car to be able to continue to run on pump gas. That will not make the max HP that the car is capable of, but I plan on having two tuning maps. I will have one for 91 octane for street and one for 100 octane for racing. Since Cobb is so slow on releasing the AP for the RS, I may be jumping to a LinkPlus pretty quickly here. But we'll see. I will be in SLC on Wednesday and plan to discuss it with Trey at that point...

And for anyone who is saying "only" 250hp, you just need a ride in this car. As it stands now, with 205, I hand stock and stage I WRX's their ass. 250chp will be more than enough to be a dominant force in the rocky mountain rally-x and soloII scene...

I have never acually talked to Louis, but saw his car at the mike shaw show last summer. Damn that thing was mean!
As far as the heads go, I still need to pick up my ej22t short block from J-money and see what kind of work it needs. Hopefully it is just a spun bearing. I'll let you know asap if I can get them or not.

Keep us posted on the high compression monster.
