im lookin to build a street rod thats fairly showy and has the capeability to be fast.

i want to stay away from notoriously fast cars.ie your gto, comaro,mopar,mustang,corvette. and i dont want a old 30's ford beccause 32's and 37's have been done to death.

so does anyone have an idea of an old school car that is like a street cruiser that can be fast somewhere in the 50's to early 70's era chevys that would make a cool hot rod.

The Superbird is a Plymouth. The Charger Daytona is Dodge's sister car. You're talking upwards of $75k.

i did a search on ebay and found a 914 with a v8 in it. best part is its in my town so im gonna go look at it tomorow. 20k at least though.

im kinda teterin between standard american cars and mini porches with big motors. but one thing remains the same. i want a v8.

if you're thinkign about a porsche though, get a 911 turbo. No question. Definately a porsche. I'd go with a porsche over an american car. You should get a porsche.

Novas are extremely common if you want something unique. Personally I think most Porsches are too clinical, but it's your call. Early '70's and previous Porsches had more cancer problems than later ones if you go something like 911 that spanned the decades. Everything will be much more expensive and difficult. Just another thing to keep in mind. The Daimler SP250 had a V8 and I'd bet you could find an old Z with a V8. I wonder if a V8 could be stuffed into a Saab Sonnet III?

Mercs are nice, but those are getting up there. Hudson Hornets are cool on that vein. What's the price range you have? Really weird would be a Kaiser, but I'm not sure what you could do with it without spending big $$.

What about a Volvo with a V8 conversion? One of those Bertone coupes would be a cool starting point - already has a chop-top look. The older Volvos like the 144 were neat, too.

It's what I'd do. Early fifties Chevy's are badass too. Mid 60's lincolns and caddy's are my second favorite era.

Yes the Daimler Darts are cool, my dad has one that is just now completely restored. It does have a V-8 but keep in mind it is 2.5 liters. It might do 0-60 in around 8 seconds, no better. But that feels pretty quick in a roadster. The exhaust note is absolutely great. Fiberglass body so no body rust but watch out for blisters.

Henry J's are super cool. My dad had one of those before I was born but he always wanted one of the fastbacks which are rare and really make jaws drop, nobody can figure out what they are.

I really dig Studebaker Hawks, some had packard 352 V-8's but now we're talking big bucks.

Rancheros are really nice, my bro rolled one and his dog got scared and shit on the headliner. It was a cool ride but never the same after that.

As for drop-in motor greats, how about a 1972 BMW 3.0CS coupe with a mid-80's M motor dropped in ? Sensational looks and performance. Gonzo rust on the Karmann bodies but good ones still pop up.

For the Subaru connection, how about a Bricklin, which lived up to its name ?

No, seriously, how about a Pantera ?? 351 Cleveland V-8 and a ZF 5-speed transmission, bolted into a light and rust-prone monocoque. Now that sounds like fun !

a murc would be cool. with a severe chop and section. i wonder what prostreet tires would look like with white walls.

price range is what ever comes and catches my fancy. something that doesnt have much rust but is fairly beten. i have a 350 sittin in my friends backyard so a motor isnt a problem.

Forgot about the Bricklin! Mostly hot rodding would just be engine, though. There was one for sale around here a year or so ago for under $10k in decent shape.

A ratted out T-bucket will turn my head.

The SBC 350 into anything is so overdone I don't think anythinh you do with one is going to be original. I've seen a SBC in the front of a Bug, didn't even look twice.

I like 60's era cars a lot. Especially early and mid 60's.

If you don't want the normal Mustang, Camero, Firebird, Corvette.

a 60's era Chevelle would be cool and they aren't as played out as Nova's, or a 65-66 Malibu. Oh, you could do an Impala and roll like Snoop!

Fairlane, Falcon or Galaxie.

GTO, Lemans.

Just a few off the top of my head. There are all sorts out there. The late 60's- early 70's had some good offerings too of course but I'm more drawn to the early-mid 60's.

Old Cadillac hearse. Preferably a side loader (suicide doors). I tend to prefer the Miller-Meteor bodied cars to the Superiors, but I'm not sure if they did side loaders as the ones I've seen are end loaders.

my dad has a 78 mark 5 sittin in a shed that brand new. original red leather interior with the new car smell in it. cartier time piece with mother of pearl face in the dash 8 track and the orignal white paint. 460 under the hood. if it wernt so imaculate i would problay tub it and put a blower on top with a 9 in the back and 5:73 gears. make it do wheelies
