My roommate’s cursed car (Caution Rant)

So, my roommate has this 93 Eclipse GSX license plate TEMPTF8. I was tired of driving him to work the past few days because this pile would not start. So I spent the better part of the morning getting it started. I shut the hood as well as it shuts (from a previous accident). I finally got it started and took it for a spin (confirming it’s pile of crap status) hoping it would charge his battery enough I could sleep in tomorrow. I took it on a loop around town to get everything up to temp, this loop involved about 1mi of I-29……of which I only saw 400ft of. See, as I got up to about 65mph the ailing hood latch gave up, and the hood blew back on the windshield, killing the sunroof and cracking the windshield…. awesome. I panicked a bit and hit the brakes too hard and started to spin, and I could not even begin to recover because I couldn’t see and ended up in the ditch stuck in the snow. So I walked home about 4mi with only a –20 wind-chill to keep me company. He has backed over a mail box, messing up the back, his mom and brother got hit in an accident that messed up the front, it blows a coolant hose weekly, yada-yada-yada. And now I feel awful for blowing up his sunroof/windshield while trying to help him out. I’m going to say that deity spite or bad karma has more to do with this car than fate. Aaag, so I’m going to spend the next few hours seeing what it costs to replace two expensive pieces of glass on a car that is maybe worth 50.00. If I had a caption bubble it would be all scribbly

Cars are like people - some are just born evil. I have an E-Type (boss') I'm working on that definitely falls into this category.
The same thing happened to my uncle with a '50's Buick, but they just ripped off the hood and drove away. Good thing you got home fine.

Are you planning on buying him a new windshield and sunroof? If so, concider that you could probably purchace a decent Legacy for about the same amount of money.
Then you could sleep in.

Ok, the roomie really doesn’t care even. I thought he had just liability if any insurance, but he still owes on the loan so he still has full coverage. The previous accident didn’t total the car, and the driver who hit him was uninsured so he has not seen a cent from it. So he is hoping that the windshield and sunroof will pay off the 1400.00 he still owes, and pawn the car for parts. Last evening myself and a third roommate went to dig it out of the ditch. But the car was gone, towed by NDSP. My roommates mother and brother were driving the car during the accident that f-ed up the car in the first place, and could not find the insurance or registration information. At that time the Fuzz sent a notice to my roommate to send in that information or his license would be suspended. Well the letter never came, and his license was suspended without him knowing. So when the trooper ran the plates of really busted azz car on the side of the highway and found the owner had a suspended license, he had the car impounded. The cop tracked the roommate down at work, threatening to arrest him after he found out why he was driving on the highway. The trooper bought the “my friend was driving” story, after talking to me. And he was pretty pissed at me because I didn’t report the accident, he thought all the damage occurred that day and was expecting to find bodies. When I told him how the car was previously damaged and just the hood flew up and broke the windshield and sunroof…I now had to convince him to not write a defective vehicle ticket. Well he had pity on us and just said you can pick up the car tomorrow. The towing fee on top of it all will be 140 or so….for 4mi of towing
