2 Questions for Vrg3

Number 1:

Are you done your Thesis?

Number 2:

When are you gonna take boostjunkies legacy and start rebuilding it?

Reason for these..
I want to read about your build-up.

Phil's almost done playing with his.
Matt's busted.
Jake15 doesn't post enough info
etc.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see what you do with it.

I'm not done with my thesis yet. I've got at least a couple more weeks to go.

...

The boostjunkie Legacy isn't going to be built up. I'm sorry. :(

Basically, I have too much uncertainty about what's happening in my life right now. I might be moving far away from DC, and I'm unlikely to have much disposable income for a while. I am reaching the limits of how long I can ask my parents to keep storing the car for me and to wait to get back the money they lent me for it. I still have my own daily driver as a project car as well.

Tomorrow morning, Phil, Matt, and I are going to begin disassembling the car.

The parts are going to mostly stay in the family, though. As much as possible I'll sell things to BBS members or use them myself.

Pour one out for our fallen Legacy. Its Legacy will live on in other Legacies.

I don't think it would be accurate to say Phil is almost done playing with his Legacy. I'm sure we'll see him do some really cool new stuff if we're patient.

And as for Matt, his Subarina will soon be running again, with the boostjunkie Legacy powerplant . We will see great things, I'm sure.

As an aside -- does anyone know if it's typically possible to have a car chassis without wheels or a suspension hauled off for not too much money?

without wheels and suspension probably not. You could always just head down to the local pick n pull and buy some complete struts and steelies (might not need tires depending on how it's towed) and throw that stuff on. Did you get my e-mail about the tranny and stuff?

oh nvm, just got a response :)

Yeah, maybe I could get some junk replacements. I don't have much time though; the local pick-and-pull isn't very close by, and I'm leaving the country on Thursday. We'll have to see. I was kind of wondering if it would be at all practical for a hauler to cut the chassis up and then take it. I guess I should just call some wreckers up rather than hypothesizing.

I did get your email and I just replied right before making the post above. Unfortunately, the tranny is spoken for. After tomorrow's disassembly I'll probably be posting a list of what is and isn't available.

I wanted to see that car come back to life, it was legendary among us...

Seriously, if I won the lottery, I would buy that car in an instant. I'm not the best person to keep it going, but I'm damn sure willing to learn.

quickdrive. my posts lately havent been exactly info. packed, but i'm getting there  just give me some ideas of what you want to know.

Vikash, is the fuel management stuff spoken for? because i'm kind of interested in it :D

Oh no, my car a never-ending build.

It's just a slow point right now. I've got things on the way. You should know me better than that by now ;).

I've always got something up my sleeve to keep the LegacyCentral guys talking.

The boostjunkie Legacy will live on through as many people as the parts touch. It was a legendary car for all of us, but it's going to be split to up and coming legendary cars. Only good things will come from the parting of the Boostjunkie Legacy.

iv got something up my sleve that would make heads spinn but i think im gonna chew on it for a while until im fully prepared for the step. literaly and figurativly speaking

on a side note. the 39 performs verry well. can you accelarate to 95 at only 3000 rpm

Can I accelerate to 95mph at only 3000 RPM? Yea.... I can accelerate to 95mph at only 3000 RPM without going on boost. I think everyone on a non-stock turbo can do that.

But your automatic, so I don't know how fast your going in 4th at 3000 RPM. In 5th, at 3000, I'm going right around 80.

See everyone. It's been one day since I posted, and I've got 5 or 6 more mods ready to install and go.

A good chunk of the larger bits of the car are spoken for.

I think Vikash is going to try to write up what's left tomorrow or Monday.

Turbo is spoken for, I know that.

So is the rear LSD (me ;))

How can you increase speed without increasing RPM?

Vikash, that sucks man, I'm sure if income wasn't a problem we'd see one helluva car after that build was done.

Well it's good to know that it's being used as a memory in other cars at least.

I'd like to know what parts are availble as well. Even though I may not buy anything..

If I recall the exhaust was tempting on my end..
And the turbo to IC samco hoses (for when I get a td05)

Phil, I know your car is a neverending build, that's obvious :)
Jake, Nothing particular I want to know, just like reading about all the little bits n peices of buildups and live vicariously through you all.
As an aside -- does anyone know if it's typically possible to have a car chassis without wheels or a suspension hauled off for not too much money?
When I junked my 92, they hauled it off for free, drug it along the ground up onto the flatbed, no wheels at all... in retrospect I should've taken the suspension and brakes off and more...

Oh well, hindsight is 20/20

as long as the car is positioned to be accessible to a wrecker, you only need rolling wheels on one end. then you'll get your $25-50

$25-50? I wouldn't expect a dime. Up here you're lucky if they take it for free or even give you anything for driving it in.

Well... it's nearly all done. After the sun does its thing a little I'm going to pull the engine crossmember and both sway bars, and call the wrecker. This being Northern Virginia I'm going to pay $125 to have the chassis hauled off.

subyluvr2212 - To be honest, in some ways I'm glad I didn't just fix the car up and start driving it. During the teardown we learned a lot. The boostjunkie Legacy was a legend, a shining model to which many aspired, but in many ways the most important thing was that it was one of the first Legacies to be modified and pushed hard. Because of the precedent, it is much easier to build other Legacies up to similar levels.

We found a few things that kind of bothered us during the teardown. It's pretty easy to understand why there were so many electrical gremlins while the car was still running. As some examples: we found the knock sensor had had its wiring redone kind of shoddily, and was bolted to the transmission rather than the engine block. The fuel pump's wiring was also shoddily done; the ground wire had fallen off and even the +12v wire was not well insulated. I'm very glad I didn't drive the car in that condition -- it could easily have caused sparks in the fuel tank. There was some weird wiring going on around the ECU, too, some of which probably had to do with the fact that the S-AFC was wired in without good knowledge of ECU pinouts.

So, anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the car being a parts donor instead of being fixed up. There was more rust in the car than it initially looked like there was; we found wet mud and leaves packed inside openings in the crossmembers and behind trim. I imagine most of our cars probably have that going on, though, so I'm definitely going to check my car over for it.

There are actually pretty few parts that I'm gonna be offering up here. Most of it is spoken for. I will post up what I do have to offer sometime soon.

Let me apologize in advance for the negative responses that will make up the remainder of this post. Sorry.

Jake - The fuel management modifications consisted of an S-AFC II (which I don't think was actually tuned to do anything) and a Walbro fuel pump, both of which are already spoken for.

Laurel - I'm going to be using the turbo myself.

dzx - I need that piece for myself too.

QuickDrive - If you remember, the intercooler inlet hose is a kind of Frankenstein combination of the stock plastic pipe and the Samco hose. I think I'll want to keep the intercooler and hose together. They might already be dibsed though. Also, I don't know if I'm up to the task of shipping the exhaust. After the downpipe, it's a single long piece. I'm going to see if I can sell it locally first, I think.

Did anyone claim the turbo crossmember? Problem would be that I couldn't pick it up for a few more months.

I was going to hang onto it, but maybe I won't want it anymore in a few months, so ask me again. :)

Despite our findings, I feel like the Boostjunkie Legacy has been a very important vehicle in the Legacy community. I know, at least, that it was Jason's Legacy that got me started into modding. It gave me vision of what I wanted to produce, and reguardless of it's eventual condition, that's something that is still important to me. Had the car never existed, I wouldn't be here before you all today with what I've created. There were a LOT of good things that came from the car, and the Legacy will live on, vicariously, through all of the cars it will touch. Not just directly, but indirectly as well.

Thank you Jason for being part of the community and helping so many people in turn.
