so today i went and got my wrx bov put in. i put in on a vac and it oppened fine so we went ahead and put it on the car. the result of which is three things. one it opens 2 my boost just went down another 2 psi and 3 it still has a flutter after its initial opening.
heres the breakdown. when i hit full boost (which sucks becasue A) it doesnt come on fast anymore and B) because its less than stock and C) because the intake as a whole is restrictive to the point that i may have to check it for rats ) and let off the gas it goes woosssssssshhhhhhhtssssstsssstssstssstssstssstssts. so its a combo of valve opening and something that sounds like surge but lasts longer.
before with the stock valve i made sure not to go on boost and when i did made sure to let it down easy so that it would not have surge. after it got below 0 psi it would be fine. now if i push it to zero without going on boost and let off it sounds like surge tsssstssstsstssstssts but when i hit the boost it does that which i have described above.
i have no idea why its doing what its doing i have no idea what its doing all i know is that the boost isnt going high enough and that its doin somthin to sound funny.
i am so incredibly pissed at my car right now. all i take comfort in is that i will soon have a 16g and hopefully be able to drive in peace

What type of BOV is it?
Boost shouldn't go down any with the addition of a BOV.
How is your intake restrictive? You don't even have a filter.
What kind of downpipe are you using? Not stock, right?

The WRX BOV probably doesnt flow much more than the stock legacy one. Get an aftermarket BOV. You have stock dp?? with a VF39? No wonder it makes no boost

VF39 = T3h suck. Open that exhaust a bit man. Try unbolting your downpipe and running it open and see if that does anything.

with open intake and 15 psi it was pretty sick.
dp is commin, 16g is commin.
btw. are all tdo5h turbos 16g,s cuz the one im lookin at says tdo5h on the stamp but not 16 g. it came off a JDM ej20g closed deck. im probaly gonna get teh heads of that motor too. theres still an issue of the 700 for part and labor. that and fuel rails

So you're suggesting that he pumps exhaust straight into the engine bay?

My turbo:
Did you properly install the BOV? Recirc plumbing and all?
A bov swap shouldn't cause you to not boost as high.

Keeping in mind i have never bought a turbo:
td05h covers 12a through 20c. The 16g is right in the middle. There are also different inlet/outlet trims, hence the big 16g and the small 16g. Saying you have a td05h is like saying you have a mitsubishi turbo for a car. Some gc wrx'es have a 16g and some have a 14b depending on year, either is an upgrade from your 12a sized stock turbo.
Any or all of this post could be wrong.

They put 14b s on some (GC8) WRX's? That seems kind of pointless to change turbo manufacturers to get basically the same size turbo as a VF12, or to use a TD05 14b which is basically same as a TD04.

yes i installed the bov right with all of the recirc stuff. im gonna put my stock one back on to supplement the new one today.
im getting surge still. more than before and it sucks. the only difference between the 2 is that surge comes in different spots and for different amounts of time. hopefully having the 2 on there will fix the issue.
im also trying to hunt down another stock wrx bpv just to make sure that mine is ok.
the tdo5 is a pretty good size. it has a 90 degree inlet and the only difference i can see in it is that the water suply line isnt as long nor is it angled to the side like newer wrx turbos are.
oh and i forgot to mention that i now have a leak in my radatior. its pin hole so no water gets onto the floor yet i have this verry atractive steam that comes out of my hood. unless someone has one i can buy im gonna need to spend another 400 on a new radatior after less than a year with this one in.

Impact wrench. The stock downpipe comes off easy.
When I go FMIC, I'll probably do a pre-and-post BOV setup. Supra guys often do this, and a friend of mine with a WRX did this as well. He said it was awesome. I'll probably sell the HKS BOV, and pick up a SARD BOV and a TIAL BOV. Perhaps... Or keep the HKS, and pick up a SARD.
