Damn you, UPS

Post by jamal »

I found a decent deal on a set of 04 STi take-offs two weeks ago, and bought them. This is after I bought a set of 05 take-offs, found out they didn't fit (I can explain why in detail with pictures, if anyone wants), and then was fortunately able to sell them locally for a small profit.

The suspension got here Friday, and I was really excited. I opened the box, took out the first strut, and went around and showed it off to a few friends. Then I came back to my room, took out another strut, then the next one, and hey, wait a minute, there are only 3!

I sent an e-mail to the seller saying that there were only three. he replied later saying that was impossible; he put all four in the box himself. Then I went to Vegas for a few days, and got back tonight. No reply from the guy yet, but I had thought it over a bit.

The box was a little torn up and re-taped over, so I borrowed a bathroom scale and weighed the suspension. 20lbs per strut assembly, and the scale seems to be a little on the high side. Weight on the packing slip is 81 lbs. Hmmm, I wonder where the extra 20lbs came from? I'm pretty sure the cardboard box doesn't weight 20 lbs.

I just filed a claim with UPS. Bastards. How the hell do you lost a strut?

I gave them the price for all new parts off 1stsubaruparts. Anyone know where I can find one left front strut/spring/tophat assembly with less than 1000 miles? The ones I bought only have 700.

Here's a picture of my 3 struts and the mangled box:

I try to specify ANYTHING but UPS whenever I ship or receive. They are easily the worst shipping company there is. I used to have to be intimately involved with S&R when I worked for Sylvania since our shipper was lazy, and UPS was a problem almost every time. Unfortunately, due to price, they specified I used those douchebags whenever possible. People talk shit about the post office, but I have had nothing but good experiences with them. Fed-Ex is very reliable, too. Good luck with your claim sometimes they're accomodating, sometimes they aren't. This footballed box and missing parts thing happens with them all the time. No exaggeration, but nearly every package I've ever received (whether missing parts or not) looked like it had fallen off the truck while going down the highway. Unfortunately, they don't give you those mafia "it fell off a truck" discounts. It must be a conspiracy that keeps them in business. I dream of the day this company goes under. My hatred for UPS knows few bounds.

We use UPS everyday where I work, and have never had a problem with damaged or missing parts. Sure, alot of boxes have shown damage, but nothing inside has ever been damaged. And I've worked there for three years now. Maybe it's a residental delivery thing?

Seems like it's mostly the fault of the guy who shipped it for doing such a shitty job of packaging 80lbs of parts I paid $600 for (shipped). I guess I'll see what UPS says when I call them tomorrow.
