Teens Leaping For Thrills In 'Garage Jumping' Trend

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Teenagers in Orlando, Fla., are leaping between 80-foot high public parking garages in a new trend called "garage jumping," according to a Local 6 News investigation.

Local 6 News reported that the thrill seekers are vaulting themselves between garages in downtown Orlando.

Tim Bargfrede told Local 6 News that he was following friends when he attempted to garage jump and did not make it to the other side. Bargfrede fell six stories and was knocked unconscious on impact.

"I just didn't make it," Bargfrede said.

Bargfrede survived the 80-foot fall but was injured.

"The first time I came to the garage after my son's accident, I looked over and I just about broke out in tears," the boy's father Tim Bargfrede said. "I can't believe he actually survived. He looked like he was near death."

Report: Garage Jumping Is Dangerous New Trend

"He (Bargfrede) is not he first person, he is not the second person, there have been four or five other individuals before him that did this," family's attorney Vincent D'Assaro said.

The city of Orlando owns one of the downtown parking lots next to a private parking garage owned by Orlando Tower LP, according to Local 6 News.

Orlando Parking Garage Director Samuel Vennero admitted he was aware of at least one other incident where a garage jumper didn't make it to the other side.

"I don't think we recognized it before as a danger," Vennero said.

There are no safety fences in place on the parking garage.

Local 6 News reported that thrill seekers are vaulting themselves between garages in downtown Orlando.

D'Assaro is filing a lawsuit against the city of Orlando and the private garage owner for making little effort to correct a potential deadly risk.

"There was a very, very short length of fence that was completely ineffective in preventing this from happening," D'Assaro said.

Orlando Tower LP, the private parking lot owner, refused to comment about their responsibility, according to the report.

Since Bargfrede fell, the City of Orlando erected a partial fence but there's still room for someone to take a dangerous dive.

The family says that's not good enough and that both garages need to take responsibility before a garage jumper loses his life.

They can't be serious... suing cause they jumped? Under most state laws, that's considered "Attempted Suicide", which you can and in this case should be incarcerated/committed for.
Sometimes I wonder why we don't draft these kinds of people..

It's impossible to protect people from themselves, why do we try?

Yes, we want these people to go. Bets bet is to send them to a starving country where they can be slaughtered for food.

There's nothing new in this, though, kids have been doing this for years.

I was about to say. . . I'm sure that has some influence on these stunts. Not that it's an excuse for stupidity, but the ideas always have to come from somewhere.

I saw Subyluvr doing that after our meet and greet in Orlando. I was driving down Orange ave and saw him jump over my car...I was like WTF!!!

Later that evening I saw the news and sure enough.....his mug was all over it.

He was quoted saying, "I drive a Subaru.....I am all about the thrills....BABY!!"

I'll admit that some of the ideas I had when I was a kid were far from smart and I've broken my share of bones but the shear stupidity of some ideas, we used to have a large rubber band, as in one of those rubber cords that goes along the luggage place in charter busses, big ole' 1/2" dia. thing, which lead to lots of great ideas. I've also done my share of free climbing on cliff faces and such that would have left me dead or injured to say the least. But atleast I can accept responsibility for my own actions, I'd love to be the judge that gets to hear this lawsuit :).

they do that shit on the new Scion commercials. Sue Scion.

If parents can blame Manson for the death of their kids then they can blame Scion for putting that though into their heads.

Yeah I heard about this crap on the news the other day...

I am being 100% serious when I say that Florida has some of the stupidest people in this country. Need proof? Look at the 2000 elections

I'm almost ashamed to be living here. I'm a pretty modest person when it comes to describing myself, but I can pretty safely say that I'm leaps and bounds beyond the general population around here. It's not that I'm a gifted genius so much as it is everyone else is so goddamn stupid. I have seriously seen someone and asked myself how that brain is even capable of keeping their heart beating and their lungs breathing.

But enough ranting... We still have the hottest chicks around here :D
