What a frickin' moron! He's lucky that he shot himself and not one of the children in the room! That made me angry, if my child was present when something like that happened shit would hit the fan, straight up. What a jack ass.

Newsbrief: DEA Agent Demonstrates Gun Safety to School Kids -- By Shooting Himself 5/7/04 Now, here's a lesson on gun safety that will not quickly be forgotten. According to Orlando, Florida, television station WKMG, an Orlando-based DEA agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to local kids. The agent, whom superiors mercifully refused to name, was treated at the Orlando Hospital Center after the April 9 incident and is now back on the job.

According to police reports, the agent drew his .40-caliber pistol and removed the magazine, then pulled back the slide and asked someone from the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded. The pistol was pointed at the floor, and when he released the slide, one bullet fired into the top of his left thigh.

The DEA agent's presentation was at an event sponsored by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association (http://www.omyga.org). There was no explanation as to the link between teen golf and gun safety.

But the agent's presentation had an impact, according to witnesses. "The kids screamed and started to cry," said Vivian Farmer, who attended the presentation with her 13-year-old nephew. "Everyone was pretty shaken up," Farmer told WKMG. "But the point of gun safety hit home. Unfortunately, the agent had to get shot. But after seeing that, my nephew doesn't want to have anything to do with guns."

I would've thought it was the coolest thing when I was a kid. And funny. I heard of an officer doing something similar in a classroom a few years back, but the bullet didn't hit anyone I think. Apparently it was an issue Glock was having with their internal safeties on that particular 9mm (17?) according to the article.

I've heard of that problem with safeties. He had a .40, which he mistakenly refers to as a "glock 40," which doesn't exist.

What a retard. Well, he was coming off as a jackass, being all like "I'm the only one in this room professional enough to carry a Glock 40, I get guns, I'm cool, you're not, OH SHIT I JUST SHOT MYSELF IN THE LEG!"

Yeah, Glocks are all pretty similar anyway, so a problem with one would be a problem with a lot of them I'd guess. I won't let myself have a gun, so that's just from what I know researching for my novels.

d00ds, this isn't that bad. It wasn't "Guns are Bad" talk, it was a GUN SAFETY talk. Yes, this time it DID hit home, even for the teacher. The repercussions of something like this, though, in that intellectual state of florida are that these kids are more likely to join some kind of spanish-mexican-cuban gang where they only use switchblades and chihauhaus. (sp?) Good riddance to guns when they've been permanently scarred by a DEA (Dumbass Educators Agency?) Agent who probably wasn't prepared for the presentation as well as he should have been. Do any of YOU get nervous when doing public talks/speeches?

Exactly..

He was trying to get the point across that it's okay to have guns, own guns, and *gasp* even LIKE guns, but you gotta be careful, that's penultimate.

Cops, gotta love 'em, the poor souls. They need a gun to feel complete.
