i took off a plug wire and im not the best at guessing how bad they are, but this one is pretty stiff, so does that mean i have to replace them? the wires are about 5 years old too, thanks

I've never had wires make it anywhere near 5 years on a Subaru. Are you experiencing hesitation? I'd probably replace them anyway with Magnecors.

well the thing is that its my moms car. she wanted me to check them. she has a 2000 mercury cougar, and the thing has over 100,000 miles on it and it has no hesitation what so ever, starts up on a few cranks no problem, but by the sounds of it she should replace them probably

The Magnecors are a little pricey, but they will last. I've had store brand and NGKs and they last a year and a half at most. I don't know if it's the waste spark ignition that wears them out (builds resistance faster) or what, but my old GLs weren't much better and they had mechanical distributors.
