F*CKING STEALERSHIP!!!

Alright guys, I've had my first bad experience with a stealership.

I took my car in today to get an estimate on how much it'd cost to get some work done on it, including re-doing the trim and re-bonding the left-rear quarter panel. I take the guy out to look at it, and the first thing he says is, "Whoa... did you say that this thing was in California? It's so... clean..." Nice! Then he looks at the odometer. "Oh my god... do you realize that when I type this into the computer it's going to ask me to confirm it? 66,000 on a '90 Legacy!?" Niiiiice! I really amazed the hell out of him with the condition of my car, the miles, and the FWD-ness. Hell, he hadn't even seen the "LEGACY" emblems on the sides of the back before. My car was like, an amazing thing to him.

Which is what tends to happen when I take it to people who have little idea what they're doing around first-generation Legacys.

So then he asks what it is I want done. I pointed out the rear corner panels that I couldn't get back on after the rear speaker install. "Oh, you need to take the yellow pieces out. We've got a tool to do that." Woot! And he did it for free, too. So far, so good.

Then I pointed out the outside right-rear quarter panel that seems to be loose. He suggests that since its condition is fine, that it simply be re-bonded. Cool...

Lastly, I pointed out the trim paint that's coming off, as well as the weather stripping that's just beginning to peel a bit. "I had an accident this winter while scraping ice, so I just decided to clear off the black paint on the center trim," I told him. "Yeah, trim flaking off is a common problem with these cars," he said...

...and took a hold of one of the corners of the weather stripping that was beginning to peel, yanking it off. O.O!

Then he did it again to another piece while talking about replacing something or repainting... I didn't really hear him 'cause I wasn't paying attention. He just ripped something off of a customer's car!!! My car!!! What I wanted to say was, "F*ck you, man! Get your dirty hands off of my car and shove it!" except he hadn't taken those pieces out and was going to give me some parts I had been missing... so I sucked it up and got my stuff and left with a $213 estimate.

F*CK!!! I'm just so pissed off... I had actually managed to keep my car looking uniform despite the poor paint!!! Now the trim looks like any other unloved Legacy around here... >.<

Just... god damn it. Just to spite them, I'm gonna take all the trim off myself, re-bond the quarter panel myself and use my $300 on a new suspension system.

Jeezus... this sucks big time. I mean... shit! My car! And he did it like it was nothing, too!

This is Nomake Wan pissed off. >.<!!!

Yes, avoid Bill Cooke if you can. I'm sorry the dude acted like that.

It's a little bit of a drive, but next time you want some Subaru-specific help, if you go to Mark Mann in Trumansburg, he'll treat you better. His is an independent mechanical and body repair shop that's worked pretty much exclusively on Subarus for many many years.

Take route 79 up around the far side of the lake for something like 10 or 15 miles, and about a mile after you get through Mecklenburg watch for a long gravel road on the left called Fitzgerald Road. Go to the end of Fitzgerald and he's on the right. Tell him I said hi. :)

Wow, that's absurd that he would just start pulling pieces off of your car.
