Walbro 255lph GSS341 fuel pump

Just got my Walbro fuel pump and removed the stock unit... way different!

I don't see how this is a direct replacement - I know my Legacy was made in Canada (no automatic deathbelts) but I didn't think it'd make that big a difference... I got a photo of them side by side, and will post it later when I get home. It just does not seem as though it will fit the bracket no matter how many zip ties I use...

The original pump has the following information on it:
JECS
A42-646055
3630G

The sock was even a loose fit on the Walbro, and it's hard plastic so it would be pumping air when I'm low on fuel. Not to mention how freaking small the inlet is as far as clamp depth - no room to grip anything!

Anyone else had problems installing one of these fuel pumps?

Oh - another thing I found is the ground wire on the fuel pump was rather crispy and burnt-looking... as much as I like fire, I'd rather it not be in the fuel tank - so that line was replaced.

I have a GSS42. I haven't put it in yet, but I'm sure that as long as I have the pigtail connector with the postive and negative wires I'll be fine. I don't actually have that yet, so it's hampering my progress.

I had the same pump (stock), and I replaced it with the GSS 341 Walbro unit not too long ago.

It dropped right in with the installation kit. It had the necessary wiring harness, filter, and rubber isolator piece, so everything fit just like it should.

Same here, when i replaced it, it was a different size but pretty much a drop in. Just had to shorten a piece of fuel hose.

...and the installation kit is available where? I hope it comes with another sock, because the stock one isn't going to seal with the Walbro. Lightningmotorsports.com didn't list any installation kit. Where can I order it, what's the part #, and how much?

The stock pump is huge, the Walbro isn't. It fits, just use a slightly longer peice of fuel hose and set it up like that.

The rubber foot fits the bracket, you just need to press it down with a longer peice of fuel hose.

I've been wanting to pull my pump again to check the connections and everything, so I'll take a picture when I do it.

I had Dale Teague (Boxer4Racing.com) order it when I ordered my pump.

I believe the kit was about $15, so I figured 'what the hell'. Everything hooked up just like it was meant to be.

I lost the little ring thing that holds the sock in place (fits onto the little white post in the center on the bottom), but it didn't look like it was desperately needed.

I had the same problem. I cut the rubber base to fit, used some longer fuel line, used a zip tie to hold the pump to the metal frame and used some different electrical connections. So far, so good.

You want number 36. I used this with the GSS341 on my 90 NA and it went right in. The rubber part is different shaped so that needs attention though.

Interesting... so # 36 is correct for turbo Legacy fuel pump applications as well?

Right now, if I lost that retaining ring, there'd be no way to install the Walbro - without that, the sock is way too loose on the new pump. The stock pump actually has a larger opening diameter, although it necks off quickly.

What is different between the turbo and NA Legacy stock fuel pump assemblies? And is there any difference between USDM and Canadian Legacies other than the automatic seatbelts...?

I'm looking at those kits.... just want to make sure I get what I need to finish this job without having to return something. Internet returns blow. #36 sure looks like the kit with the parts that'd fit in my fuel pump assembly. It's got the right shape on the sock, anyway.

Well 36 is the one for the wrx. It comes with a new retaining ring for the sock so you'd be set there, I think the only difference between the turbo and the na pump is that the na pump has the single connector at the top of it and two seperate connectors at the pump, while the turbo pump has the single connector at the top of it and a single connector at the pump. I'm *think* the top connector is the same between most if not all subarus.

The one for the WRX worked perfect for mine. I got mine with the kit, which is how we sell them, but I doubt we'll sell the two seperatelly.
