How do you remove it?

By 'it', I mean the shift lever in a 4EAT legacy turbo.
I tried the other day, and almost had it off. The problem was the wires for the 'power' button on the handle. I looked around, but couldn't find an electrical connector I could unplug it at.
I was thinking of making a suede shift boot for it (I have an old jacket lying around that I can cut up), but I can't get the damned handle off.

I like my automatic, but I would prefer a manual. That's for when the transmission blows up in about 10k miles

Simple answer is you can't.
The only way to remove the lever is cut the wires. I found this out when I did my swap, removed the shift lever, and tried to get it apart.

Are you serious? So there's no replacing *it*, either? I tried getting mine off, at one point, and got too frustrated, so I just left it alone.. Grrr. .

Only way to replace it is to desolder the wires, remove it, and then resolder. Or just get rid of the manual button, or rewire to another button.

Hmm..... I may just end up de-soldering the wires and re-soldering.
I am rather fond of the manual button (for some odd reason). I think having a suede shift boot will look pretty slick, though.

There is a white connector that the button goes to, and you can (almost) get that off. Problem is: it is shared by the neutral safety switch. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
