I noticed the blue as well. Not as cool as my 92, I painted the needles STi pink, it came out real nice. I'll do the same to my 93 sometime because the orange is bugging me.

Did you just paint them with model paint?
I love heads up displays

I hate heads up displays. I drove a C6 Vette and some other shitty GM with it, and on the track it just gets in the way.
They draw your attention to the bottom of the winshield, when you should be looking ahead and through the turns.

I guess for those baker-track days, it'd be perfect then.
I'll pass, and go by feel and if equiped, a shift tone.

The top one and the bottom one are first gen legacys, the middle is a third gen legacy. If you notice on the top one the whole motif is blue so I think the gauges are stock but the actual picture is blue.

Are those two different companies or could that be the same car in the top and bottom picture. I noticed the thing on the dash is diff.

I don't think it would be so bad if they projected it onto the part of the windshield where it is just blocking your own hood. I don't know why they project it way up on the glass where you are trying to see where you are going!

That's the problem. It's either right in the way of where you need to be looking, or it's to low and draws your attention directly in front of the car instead of looking ahead.

They're all pictures from defi's site. I don't really see the point of an HUD aside from the novelty factor. It'd be cool to have one in a luxury car but not in a sporty car.

In automobiles HUD’s are simply party tricks. I've been in a few GM vehiclesthat had a HUD, GM seems to be the only ones to bother with the crap. And the HUD was focused at the point where it showed up on the windshield, making the driver change focus. In Aircraft with a HUD, it is focused about 30ft in front of the pilot so that they are not staring at the inside of the canopy/windscreen but well in front of them. Than and there is a huge amount of data in an aircraft HUD, not just one or two things…..and of course cost 10x what most cars do. I’d place auto HUD’s at the same level as multiple TV screens in the back of a headrest.

Arent the cadillacs with night vision set up that way?

I drove a cadillac XLR at work with a HUD and i thought it was kind of cool. It was nice that you could turn it off you you wanted to though. For the most part i think its something that rich bastards get so they can be better than anyone alse.

It wasn't too hard to paint the needles. The hard part is scraping off the old paint, I ended up pulling them off to be able to get all the old paint off. Use a bit of tape to mark where thy point at before pulling them off. I used model paint and a toothpick to paint them. I should see my old car next weekend so I'll try to get a pic, it looks way cool.
I don't think I'd care much for a HUD in a car. I hate anything that changes your focus and at night it's downright dangerous. The cool thing on aircraft is it will give you a gyro adjusted aiming point for your guns.

That's the "Pipper." The computer predicts a few seconds into the future based on a bunch of stuff and where the rounds would fall. But that's 70's tech. The new stuff (that we know about) has a helmet mounted HUD that can tell where a pilot is looking and fire without adjusting the attitude of the aircraft.

That's not very new, the Apache came out with the helmet aimed gun. It is so cool to watch the gun swing around with the gunners head.

Yeah man. I saw "Firebirds" or whatever that cheezy movie was called in the 80's. The struggling protagonist who's bane was being born a left eye dominant Apache pilot!

You're correct, Dan, I remember seeing a commercial for something like that on a Caddy, where it would project the night-vision onto the HUD.. the commercial had a deer as the sample pic, right?

I like the 'idea' but very poorly executed beyond a novelty factor. As others have mentions, positioning, focal points, and info given are not really adequate. If it gave me all the info that is on my dash then maybe I'd be happier with it, but something would have to get done about placement.
And yes, it was a deer in the commercial ... big headlights are cheaper than nightvision though.

I now have the 92 with the pink needles, and I must say they look perfect, and when I drive my friend's Leggy with regular orange ones, it looks way out of place!!!
