After the car sits overnight, before i start the car i need to turn the key on for a couple sec before i can start it, then i turn it on (it takes a couple seconds before it will start). then it runs, put it in drive or reverse, step on the gas then it feels like it will stall after a step or 3, then it runs smoothly after that. so what could be the problem? is it something related to gas? such as the injector or filter or something.

How many miles are on it?

Does it do this just when the car sits over night? What about when it sits during the day?

What area of the country do you live in?

It's possible your coolant temp sensor is needing to be replaced.

it got 160 k miles on it.

no, not just over night, it also happens during the day when the car sits for more than 2hrs or so. (when the engine is cool)

I live in bend, oregon.

I'd suggest replacing the coolant temp sensor.

It's like 20 bucks from one of the online subaru dealerships.
