Am I ruining my tranny?

Okay, most of my Legacy's shifter is out... most
. The last bracket that attaches to the linkage before it goes into the tranny is still there. I tried Dremeling that bolt out, but it was in a very awkward position and I spent about 30min a day for 3 days and only drilled it about halfway. So I tried hammering that stupid pin out. The inner pin came out relatively easy, but the outer one was REALLY in there and the took me another day...
Now my question: I got both pins out, so the only thing holding that little linkage piece on is corrosion. I stuck a tie-rod fork against it, and using a bolt on the tranny casing as a fulcrum for the lever, creamed the hell out of it for 15 minutes. It didn't budge an inch...
By hitting it this direction, I'm basically slamming it into a gear it's already in (it's either in 2nd or 4th right now, I can't tell). Am I risking damage to my tranny?
