Socket use to remove head bolts from 91 Legacy

Please does any body know what kind of sockets you use to take the head off of a 91 Legacy station wagon. Some one told us 14mm but my husband said its to loose and might strip the bolt head. He says its in the shape of a 12 pt star.

It keeps blowing the plug out of the head so the head needs to be taken off and some kind of helicoil put in it so the plug will stay in it.

Also does anybody know a good repair manual for this car that shows the right ft lbs to torque the head bolts.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks
Clair

12-point 14mm socket. There are scans of the FSM online, you can find them by searching the forums.

IIRC, the headbolt torque spec is 180in/lbs final torque - but you have to "strech" them if they're new bolts, and the manual documents how to do that properly

180in/lbs is 15ft/lbs - so no, not much.

It certainly is NOT 15 ft/lbs

It's 14 ft/lbs for the outside bolts, nd 25 ft/lbs for the inside bolts. Tht's just the final torque number, you still need to angle torque them to spec.

Also, these bolts don't stretch. Well, they shouldn't.
