Removal of rear diff head threads

I need to take the 2 threads out of one diff head to go into one I have which don't have them for some reason.
I've tried a pair of vice grips but the thread felt pretty soft so I didn't want to wreck it.
Any ideas on how to take these threads out?
Cheers

Thread two nuts on the studs, tighten the outer one to the inner one (or vice versa, whichever makes more sense to you), and start wrenchin on the inner nut.

You can't just get two new studs?

What about swapping the cover?

I like the way this one thinks.

Of course, if you've managed to pull it out without spilling any diff fluid, then this will be the messiest way to go about it.

I would say the double nut method is easiest if you can do it right. I've never been able to get it, though. . .

It helps to use an impact wrench.
