I really wish kids would stop wrecking their WRXs

Oh, gee, guess what has the highest collision risk:

http://www.iihs.org/brochures/ictl/ictl_4dr.html

The IS300 and Porshe 911 are about the same.

Someday I'd like to have one and not pay out the ass for insurance. Guess I'll wait until I'm 25.

I kind of want to post a "stop wrecking your cars" thread at nasioc.

Insurance will go up. Damn inexperienced drivers thinking AWD can substitute driving skill.

On the other hand, lotsa parts at junkyards and ebay. Hooray for modders!

I knew this would happen. People ask me all the time why I don't trade my cars in for a WRX, since I'm so speed-hungry. This is one of the reasons... :(

I wish someone would steal and wreck a WRX near me...I know the owners of all the local tow yards so I could probably pick one up cheap.

I picked up my 94 integra (rolled with minor damage) for $250.00. The IRS sent me a letter wanting to know how it is I came to purchase this vehicle so cheap. Boy was that a nightmare jumping thru their hoops.

This report took a crap all over Mitsubishi. The Lancer, Gallant, and Diamante got horrible ratings. So why are they still being stollen?

Maybe Japan wants them back because they are ashamed of them?

Can't argue with that.

I blame it mostly on the RE-92s...and the kids who don't know shit about their cars.

Kids thing they can corner the crap out of their REXs but the tires kinda suck. My leggy (way back in 95 when it was my dad's) came with them and he didnt' like them at all.

I'm hopin I see another STi with some structural damage and a low pricetag soon

I don't see how you can blame anything on the RE92. Sure, there are tires with better dry grip, but they're not that bad. They were a huge improvement over the cheap 14" tires I used to have in every way.

I used to hate RE92's. I used to think they sucked.

But they don't. They are actually a really cool performance tire. They have incredible method of breaking away. They don't violently lose traction, they just slip away.

I've often taken sweepers at 90+ and had the RE92's SCREAMING all the way, but never letting go.

And they are incredibly fun in the rain.

I have very few complaints about RE92's. sure they may not have the grip of hoosiers, but they are dirt cheap, readily available, so I dont feel bad driving them hard. also they handle everything well enough. except ice.
the main gripe I have with them is the weak sidewall. what pressure do you all run? Normally I go with 35 all the way around and when I want to drive hard I put 45 in. heard of people running upwards of 50psi for autocross.
I agree with BAC5.2 about the breakaway characteristics. very easy to control on the limit.

Well, I'm not blaming on the tire itself, its never the tires fault unless it blows because its a POS (firestone).

Its just that kids think their WRXs are going to handle like STis and they don't because their tires are not really made for high performance cornering.

I guess I worded it awkwardly the first time :?

I agree with Phil too. I don't think the RE92's are super great performers but they are predictable and very fun in the rain. When I was working in MD/DC/NoVa I used to love to throw the car around the corners, drifting across 4 lanes with ass end waaaay out for about 200'-300'. I love driving in the greater DC area.

You should have heard the screeching going on up here in central PA, back on Aug 28th when Phil, Vikash and I were terrorizing the country side. Phil and I were both running RE92's and the sound must have been incredible.
