I searched around a bit and didn't see much about rebuilding our alternators. I was wondering if anyone had and if so where did they get the kit and/or was it a total PITA or worth the trouble.

thanks for any replies

I wanted to do mine as it lasted 250k, but the parts were more than double a new alternator.

I've done brushes and diodes on a few different alternators, including a couple of EA style Subaru units. Trouble these days is finding parts is getting tough (same with starters). And like Steve said, with the cost of parts the Auto store rebuild is bound to be much cheaper... tho I doubt better.

I went to Cambodian Tire tonight to see what they had. ZERO rebuild kits for my model but they do have 3yr warranty replacements that could be mine for the low low price of $200cad after core refund. Ouch. I'll have to check the other 3 or 4 places around here for prices as well. I reckon the replacement I put in the car doesn't have much life left in it since it might have up to 470,000kms on it.
