What's with all the chrome all the sudden?!

Have you noticed how much chrome is on a lot of the new '06 models? The new Jetta has a big shiney front end, the new Ford Explorer too. Saw a Nissan truck yesterday and yep, looked almost just like the Jetta front end. I think it looks like crap.
It was nice there for a while, there was hardly any chrome on vehicles for a few years. Why the change?

It's the uglification of the automotive industry that for some reason is starting with the 2006 model year....
I too hate chrome. It instantly makes a modern car look 50 years older...

Haven't you seen that Ford commercial where they show those spanish people installing those big bling bling rims on their trucks. MEanwhile they are rapping over a reggaetone (Does not sound like reggae if you ask me) beat, saying "ride it like a ford."
I guess they are trying to apeal to the younger, blinged out generation.
Then you have the VW commercial where those two metrosexual guys drive to the middle of the dessert to get Sushi and then put it in their air conditioned glovebox and drive back home.
Another VW has a guy following a dude on his bike so he can light the way after the bike's light goes out but in reality they are trying to deomnstrate that the VW's lightr will follow a guys ass no matter where it goes.
Lets not forget about the other VW commercial where they show you where to hide the drugs if you taking your car across the border.

Thats a genuine example of a car company listening to it's majority clientel as to what they want. More gayness. Gay sells I guess, that's why vdub's are so popular.

i wonder how the chrome-on-plastic they stick on the front of cars will hold up to rock chips and whatnot.

I hate the chromification of vehicles. Any really shiny bits detract from the looks.
Check out this Blitzen wagon's grille, rack, and wheels. They would look better black or another darker color.

I kinda like some chrome if its used well... but then I'm old. But I’m not sayin I like any of the new cars with it, I was a fan of the recent VW/Audi styling until latest cars, that grill is almost as ugly as that Tribeca’s.
Sometimes the more chrome the better…
And Nick don’t worry about the Subie people callin VWs gay… they are all lesbians anyway. Air suckin VeeWees rule. Here's one of mine (even has some chrome).

Old veedubs don't count. It's just the newer Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle (I have a problem even calling it a beetle).
Air cooled VW's are the shit. It's too bad everything rusts out here so they are uber rare. They're all over out in Oregon though.

I dont really mind how the chromed plastic looks-but think of how nasty it will be in 6 years!!! all the "chrome" will be chipping off with faded yellowed plastic underneath. and all that two tone plastic body cladding will look equally as horrible.

All-Talk, What a beauty, I'm usually not a fan of modded old VW's, BUT that one looks sharp!!
Yeah old fake plastic chrome looks really bad!
especially when it turns green under the yellowing plastic...

Oh yes...I am all about the chrome on Classic VW's, as mine was completely restored to stock (w/ all its chrome) before it was taken from me on Monday.

I like the old Vdubs with the hawaiian rubber. (White weather stripping)
My friend Sean had one that was peach colored with the white weather stripping and that thing was hot. He called it peaches and cream. Had this nasty stroker engine in it that would light up the tires in any gear. You could hear it a few blocks away.

Don't worry 555bcturbo, your masculinity is not in question. Old vdubs are pimp. It's the new ones I was stereotyping.

I will agree aboot the new ones...they do suck...
My Mom has a 2003 Passat, and it has had all sorts of problems and it only has 41k miles!
Too bad they don't make em like they used to (small, air-cooled and beautiful)

My dad had an old Bus that was air cooled.
Had no heat in it

Spent lots of days driving my bus through ice coldness and snowstorms, yeah if my heater wouldn't have worked....
But all that heater does anyways is keep your feet from falling off and the front cabin warm enought that you don't freeze to death. The warm air outlet sucks on the driver's side and is much better by the passsengers... damit...
Now the soobster, what a dream!!! actual HEAT, and it blows strong!! can't wait for winter trips, now that I live here in sunny diego
