"Challanged" an older Civic Si going up Mt Hood.

Was going up over the mountain today. A black Si was up ahead driving fairly quickly. When we hit the passing lanes he sped up and started going a tad faster, maybe 70 tops.

Now this passing lane starts in a long curving section of the highway and continues to twist and turn for a another mile or so. No racing at this point, just slightly faster than 55 all through them.

We finally get around the last curve and its a long upgrade straight up for almost a mile. This guy knows I am tailing it and as soon as I start accelerating, he steps on it. He gets a head start of about 10 car lengths. He has 1 passenger. I am weighing in at about 3350 lbs at least with the wagon loaded with all its seats, people and mushrooms. The civic is probably about 3000. We came out of the corner at about 60 mph.

Well, I caught him at about 92 mph. We were side by side and I could here his engine tone change and it seemed he started to gain on me. But at the same time my wife said "OK, thats enough!" so I had to back down.

So while I don't know about the top end part of the "challenge", I definately caught him fair and square till my wife called quits!

I did the whole pull at about 8 psi, not a knock to be heard.

Was driving to work the other day, going a little over 90, passed a new Porsche Carrera GT, guy didn't look too happy as I waved and flew past him(he was barely going 70), so he went to catch me, it took him FOREVER too, and even then, we got to traffic, so he never was able to pass me, until I slowed down and received a big ol' middle finger from the mid-life crisis driver. Although I'd be pissed as well if some stupid college kid in an old Subie beat me in a new German sports car

ummm... a Carrera GT weighs ~3000lb and has 600+hp, so I'm gonna go ahead a guess he wasnt goin for it. Either that or it was a boxster... with a blown motor... and a ton of bricks in the pass. seat.

Yeh, a carrera Gt wouldn't take long at all to hit 90mph from a stop, let alone starting at 70mph.

I never get a chance to "challange" other vehicles. Its always an old lady or mom with kids in the "speedy" vehicle that I get to "race" up the damn on ramp.

But today, two days in a row, I get to accelerate quickly against another vehicle.

This time it was a very clean gold (puke) Mazda MX-6. These are rated at 160 chp. Other than being gold, it was in awesome shape and looked nice. But the kid in it just couldnt catch me up the on ramp. He then did the 90 mph fly by once we were on the freeway and cruising along.

Haha, and I was only 5 psi at the time.

of course he wasn't trying, why would anyone risk that nice and expensive of a car just to prove something to a punk kid?

ferrari494 wrote:I slowed down and received a big ol' middle finger from the mid-life crisis driver
why would a carrera gt driver need to give you the finger if he had nothing to prove to a punk kid.

I've seen an old Ford van with a "Rally" badge. It was missing 2 windows.

Are you sure it was a Carrera GT??

If it was, then he must have been asleep...

My dad has a 1983 911, and it will def. give my Legacy a good run...let alone a Carerra GT
