Questions about a 1991 Subaru Legacy

Its Awd 5spd.
Can someone explain how the AWD works... is it a full time awd ?
are they pretty good as reliableity goes.

I guess my questions is...
is this a fulltime 4wd... or only fwd till the rear tires slip...
other questions is... what is the ratio of power (60 front to 40 rear ?)

Full time, its a mechanical linkage. 50/50

Yeah, as I recall, on the 5MT system..it's 50-50 using a Viscous Coupling. On the 4EAT's, there are things called clutch packs which transfer the power.

Yes its AWD (actually Subaru still called it Full Time 4WD in '91), the 5MT has a viscous coupled center diff (VLSD), with no wheel slip the power is distributed 50/50. Its all in the scans...
Sorry to sound like a grumpy old man but sheesh...

The 4EAT is a 90/10 split until slippage occurs, and the 5MT is 50/50 like previous members stated.
