i know this has probally been beaten to death, but ive had my SS for about a month and a half now. i think the best ive gotton out of a tank is about 180miles, going down all the way to E.
i do get on it on average of 2 times a day, just through one gear then lett back off.
its the 4eat. it has no codes and i havent had time to check the history yet.
what do yas think, O2?? so far ive only ran 89 octane. also the charcol canister is unhooked from where it has the T fitting, i hooked up my boost gauge and havent had the time to put in my N/A one witht he check valve.

Well
Let's start with the fuel.
IIRC, you should be using 93 octane. 89 octane will cause retarded timing, poor performance, engine knock under boost, and generally lower MPG.
You're also driving an automatic AWD car, with about 30% drivetrain loss, so with the turbo version and in stock good condition, you're looking at roughly 16-18mpg in the city, somewhere around 23 on the highway.
You can start with the O2 sensor, try vrg3's scantool (if you have a laptop that's parallel capable) and that'll give you pretty numbers such as O2 voltage without having to rig something up (except a printer cable)
Leave the charcoal canister hooked up, that's an important emissions thing. You don't need gasoline vapors seeping out from under the hood.

well i know about how the charcol canister recirculates the fumes into the motor to be burnt. also i havent had it pull timing yet, and the best i can get is only 92 octane not 93.
also i have the subaru scann tool so when i go to work on monday ill scann it.
but 12.56mph doesn't sound that great on mpg, or this tank i only got about 120miles.

Hook up the Charcoal Canister. That will cause greatly reduced gas mileage.
Run 92 octane if it's available. You may not be PULLING timing, but it's not advancing as much as it COULD with better fuel.
So you aren't burning as much of the fuel going into the engine. You are likely running a bit rich, and killing your oxygen sensor and cat all at once.

I think you mean hooking up the charcoal canister will cause increased gas mileage.
