Rear speaker wiring

I recently replaced the stereo in my 93 legacy wagon. It already had upgraded front speakers. I noticed yesterday that the rear speakers were shot. So, I went to the local stereo shop and bought a nice new pair of rear speakers. Two things I noticed:

1) They don't fit. there is something in the right rear speaker mount that gets in the way. Its an odd shaped metal thingy....

2) When the new speakers are hooked up, they sound the same, like they're shot. So.... I'm thinking theres a bad ground somewhere or the wiring between the deck and the speakers is shot. The right rear has a little sound that is totally horrible, and the left rear has zero, zilch, nada.

Any Ideas to solve the wiring issue? Am I really going to have to string new wires all the way from my deck to the speakers?

I think the metal thing next to the right speaker has to do with the filler neck. There is very little clearance between it and the bottom of my Pioneer speaker. You may have to modify the plastic bracket to get yours to fit.
I think having a slightly larger than stock magnet next to the metal thingy causes some interference. It starts to buzz and sound shitty when played loudly.

it is possible that the blown speakers you had in there, if played long enough, could have blown the rear channels on your radio. is it the factory radio?

Solution.....

Well, it turns out I'm the big loser here. When I installed the new Pioneer deck, one of the ground wires to the back was loose. So, the one speaker was shot and the other had no sound because it was not connected at the deck. The funniest part of all this is that one of the new speakers is actually bad too. I swapped them around and the same one was always bad. $100 Clairons. I should have got the 50.00 Pioneers.

 I got the $50 Pioneers, they've been a great improvement over stock. Did you go to Stereo Warehouse?

Yup, and I'm starting to regret it. Today will be the third time I'll have to go back.

That sucks homie! Just get a refund and go to wal-mart for the $50.00 pioneers.

We wish you luck. Let us know what happens.
