Non-subaru turbo question

I was looking on ebay at what kind of goodies are available for the engine in my altima and I came across this turbo kit...

And I was wondering what the turbo crowd on here thinks of it. What do you guys think the max PSI I can run on a DOHC 4 banger? The car is still under warranty so if I kill it I'm not too worried about it.

I just don't want to drop a grand into something that isn't worth it.

Do you think they'll give you a new engine under warranty after blowing it up with a turbo kit? An engine's an expensive job, too. Somebody will open it up and deny you when they see signs of severe detonation with no explanation.

An EJ22 is a few hundred bucks (and probably better built). I'd try it on that first.

best thing to do would be to pop into the Nissan Forums and ask about the strength of the blocks for turbocharging

T'aint nothing wrong with a KA24DE. They're iron blocks and tough engines.

IF YOU TUNE IT RIGHT, you could boost it and get away with it. But Steve's right, if you blow it up and then they tear the motor down, they'll definitely know something happened.

The guys at my local Nissan dealership are too stupid to know what severe detination looks like. They will think a bearing went kaboom and give me a new crate engine. Besides...I would only run a couple pounds of boost and maybe some new hi-flow injectors.

I wouldn't have to change out the crossmember to put turbo on the nissan. Thats a PITA!

You could probably do it that way, and get away with making 7psi.

I bet you'll blow your tranny quick though....

I know we offer gears for the SR guys, but not for an Altima.

They sometimes, if not always, send stuff like engines out to factories or company quality return labs where they will rip them down. They don't count on a local dealer's word since the dealer has a vested interest in helping the customer over the company in a case like that. There's also the case of wanting to know why an engine failed so that they can see if they have a quality/mfg/design defect.

I found my engine on ebay pretty cheap so if they give me any crap at the dealer I will just drop one of those in.

Thanks for all your input guys. It will be a little while before I can drop that much chedda in one place but I think I will give it a go.

7lbs of boost...really....even with an intercooler and bigger injectors.

Research indicates that the KA in your Altima has 9.2:1 CR. That's pretty high for boost. That's what will hold you back...

shitty.

I really don't like the car so if I blow it up I would kinda feel good inside....

It's a 99 and I find myself fixing more and more these days. Stupid Nissans!!
